Best Practices for Summer HVAC Care in Denver

As summer temperatures rise, your HVAC system becomes your best friend, working tirelessly to keep your home cool and comfortable. To ensure your system performs at its peak and avoids unexpected breakdowns, it’s essential to follow some best practices for summer HVAC care. Here’s what to look out for and how to keep your HVAC system in top shape.

Signs of Trouble to Watch For

  1. Unusual Noises: If you hear strange noises like grinding, squealing, or banging, your HVAC system may have a mechanical issue. These sounds often indicate problems with the motor, blower, or fan.
  2. Weak Airflow: If your air conditioner is running but the airflow from the vents is weak, there could be a blockage in the ductwork or a failing compressor.
  3. Warm Air: When the system blows warm air instead of cool, it might signal a refrigerant leak or compressor issue.
  4. Frequent Cycles: Rapid cycling on and off indicates the system is struggling to maintain the set temperature, often due to a thermostat problem or an oversized unit.
  5. High Humidity Levels: An efficient HVAC system should regulate humidity. If your home feels unusually humid, your system might need servicing.

Best Practices to Keep Your HVAC System in Peak Condition

  1. Change Air Filters Regularly: A dirty filter restricts airflow, forcing your system to work harder and reducing its efficiency. Change the filter every 1-3 months, especially during peak usage periods.
  2. Clean the Outdoor Unit: Remove any debris, leaves, or grass clippings around the outdoor condenser unit. Ensure there’s at least two feet of clearance around the unit for proper airflow.
  3. Check Thermostat Settings: Set your thermostat to a comfortable temperature and consider using a programmable thermostat to save energy when you’re not home.
  4. Seal and Insulate Ductwork: Leaky ducts can waste significant amounts of cooled air. Inspect your ductwork for leaks and seal them with mastic sealant or metal tape. Proper insulation also helps maintain the desired temperature.
  5. Schedule Regular Maintenance: Having a professional inspect and tune up your HVAC system annually ensures it operates efficiently and can catch small issues before they become major problems.

I've been a customer of Rox air for a few years. Both for air and heating but also water heater. I am on there maintenance plan and they come out twice a year and do a thorough job checking out the systems. They spend a lot of time to make sure everything is working right for the next season. I would recommend them to anyone.

Rox Heating replaced my almost 30 year old HVAC with a new heat pump recently. The experience was extremely positive from the very beginning till the job got completed. Scheduling process was hustle free, techs arrived right on time and gave us a heads up call 30 minutes prior to their arrival. They kept us informed on the installation progress, which was great since we were had activities planned that day and had to adjust our schedule. ROX techs gave us a detailed walkthrough on how to use the new heat pump. We really appreciated follow up calls from ROX’s office to make sure that everything was done to our satisfaction. I would definitely recommend ROX Heating and Air to anyone who needs help with any type of HVAC work.
