Big news for homeowners! The landscape of energy-efficient home improvement credits is changing, and we at ROX Heating & Air want to make sure you’re fully informed to take advantage of these valuable opportunities. Recent legislative updates, particularly HR1 or “The One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” have introduced changes to the 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, impacting residential furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps.
The most crucial takeaway? These tax incentives for homeowners making energy-efficient upgrades will expire for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. This means now is the time to act if you’re considering a new HVAC system!
What’s Changing for 2025?
Starting with the 2025 tax filing season, homeowners will need a Product Identification Number (PIN) on their federal tax return for each qualifying HVAC product installed in 2025 or later. Without this PIN, the IRS will not accept the claim, even if your system otherwise qualifies.
Lennox, a trusted brand we work with, has provided their Manufacturer PIN: L7S0.
How Does the 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit Work?
This credit offers significant savings for upgrading to high-efficiency HVAC systems. Here’s a breakdown of what qualifies and the potential credit amounts:
Eligible Products:
- Heat pumps
- Central air conditioners
- Furnaces
- Boilers
- Other high-efficiency HVAC systems
Credit Amounts:
- Up to $2,000 per year for heat pumps and biomass systems
- Up to $1,200 per year for other eligible improvements
Important Note: This credit applies to improvements made to a primary residence in the U.S. (not new construction).
Maximizing Your Savings Before Year-End!
Homeowners still have a golden opportunity to take advantage of these 25C tax credits if they purchase and install qualifying HVAC equipment and systems BEFORE December 31, 2025.
If you’re thinking about repairing or replacing your HVAC system in 2025, this is the perfect time! Qualifying homeowners can combine these tax benefits with any available Lennox rebates and incentives, truly maximizing your savings.
How to Ensure You Get Your Credit:
- Use Qualified Manufacturers: Only products from IRS-recognized Qualified Manufacturers will have valid PINs. ROX Heating & Air proudly partners with manufacturers who meet these standards.
- Educate Yourself on the PIN: Homeowners will need to enter the 4-character PIN directly on IRS Form 5695 (Residential Energy Credits), which is submitted with your federal tax return.
- Keep Your Records: Remember to keep your PIN with your tax records!
